office gold, vol. 1
in case i didn't already feel like my workdays more or less bleed into one another in a continuum of mundanity, with the same jokes and gripes and damn dirty work striking like dulling hammers, one co-worker's radio is set to a station that plays the same handful of songs ad nauseum.'no matter what' by badfinger
'dancing queen' by abba
'proud mary' by creedence clearwater revival
'sweet caroline' by neil diamond
'domino' by van morrisson
i think there might be some jerkson browne in there as well. maybe my mental buffers instinctually blocked him out. i'll list more as they come to me.
would anyone else care to share their own experiences with greatest hits of the office? basically, just hit me with some songs you're exposed to at work about 500 times a week, if you're so fortunate.
5 Comments:
Blunt, James. As interpreted by enterprising office crooner.
Shakira, Hips Don't Lie. Surround sound.
"songs you know, by people you've heard of"...
"lyrics that won't embarass you in front of your kids"
When I used to work at the cleaners, the guys in the back would crank up the smooth sounds of Magic 106.7. Unhealthy doses of Celine Dion, Elton John, and Tom Jones.
Throw in some Steely Dan, usually "Do It Again."
