overheard in the break room

the guy refilling the vending machine to the pot-bellied, middle-aged guy leaning against the sink: "i'm about one exploding can away from telling them i'm not doing this anymore." i'll admit this is a little jerky, but my first instinct was to think that exploding cans must be the bane of that guy's work day in much the same way that dogs are of mailmen's.

Good thing you kept your comments to yourself. I think I might have read an interview with Jay Farrar Tweedy talking about the days before Uncle Tupelo got signed. It was in No Depression or something, so go look it up.

Anyway, him and Jeff Tweedy had met through their days jobs of dealing with vending machines. Both those guys had a lot of exploding cans to deal with. At one point, they were taking a smoke break and Tweedy was grousing about how he hated exploding cans and they drove him crazy.

Farrar was pretty much just sitting there looking glum. Then this office worker who was walking by with his buddy elbows his buddy and makes some crack about the exploding cans.

Tweedy got in the guys face and was like "you think that's funny? That the cans explode and I get soda all over me? It's not funny pal, it's sticky and annoying."

And the guy was like "oh yeah, I bet. Sorry dude."

Then Tweedy was like, "oh you're not as sorry as you're gonna be," and him and Farrar just totally put the boots to him.

Apparently guys in that field ARE NOT messing around when they get upset about the exploding cans. Better hope none of them read your blog, you insensitive jerk.
