for those about to rock

the hits just keep on comin

a quick little jam circle. just a 12-string and beatboxing and a few rhymes here and there and that's all it takes to make a little music. the simplicity of it -- maybe the guitar doing a couple of simple chord stabs with a few legatto lines, a four or five-note bass groove, a basic beat -- lets everyone work on developing nuance by bouncing off of a fundamental, easily-assimilated structure. i don't mean to embellish this part of my trip to make it sound idyllic, but this is the kind of musical situation i've been missing ... the kind that elicits the ability to stretch and experiment and to lose some nagging conventions and begin to recognize my inner voice.

fuck, i'd love to have taped some of these moments where we're all just messing around. lots to learn from that kind of irreverence.
