montreal. canadians.
first 24 hours i've spent in another country in my lifetime are down. there's plenty to talk about, though i don't feel that i've had enough time yet to process everything and make sense of my experiences so far, nor do i think i'll be capable of putting together a cogent recap of the trip until i've been back home for a couple of days. for now, some bite-size facts:quick hits:
-bright lights, big city. lots and lots of shops and clubs in a frenzied competition for your attention
-there's adult entertainment every five steps or so on saint catherine's
-no right turns on red anywhere
-sweet and sour "gravy" on fried onions n' chopped hamburger steak i had last night: tasty
-everyone smokes (sidenote - being able to actually smoke in bars and restaurants again: heart-warming, stokes the sentimental)
-underground mall: insane; it's as though 5 average american malls got together and decided to make an uber-mall club sandwich
-the women here are stunning. consequently, i've been walking around in a sweet ga-ga stupor and have nearly stepped right into oncoming traffic a good 3 or 4 times so far
-for no apparent reason, coors light is the only light beer you can find out at bars. however, observation is based only on the four different bars we've been to thus far, so we'll see have to see if subsequent experiences continue to bear it out. by the way, as i write, i'm drinking a low-carb/low-cal "labatt sterling" i bought from a convenience store a block from our hotel, and it tastes like crap (or a dump). not sterling
i've been away only a short while, but i feel happily exhausted and overwhelmed by all that we've packed into what little time we've spent, and there's a lot of people who read this blog that i'm already missing. can't wait to see you guys.
let fly with those wink-wink nudge-nudge adult entertainment cracks, y'all!

Oh do make sure to see director François Girard's vision of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex at the Place de Arts.
Also maybe some girls taking their clothes off to the pulsing rhythms of 'Radar Love.'
