i went through a phase being a bit of a soundgarden junkie during the summer after i graduated from college, and i've found myself relapsing pretty regularly in the years since. there's so much about them to love: matt cameron's complicated, ass-kicking chops; frankenbass; insane hiro yamamoto (esp. insane, screaming hiro yamamoto on "circle of power"); kim thayil's punk sensibility and black sabbath-style riffing; chris cornell being gifted with simply some of the best vocal ability and range in the history of rock; the band's ability to seamlessly mix psychedelia and metal heaviness without the kind of cheesy by-product that marred many of sabbath's later efforts.

most people who like music find at least one or two things to admire about them -- i think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who claims that soundgarden outright sucks, and i think that if you did that either you or said person would be a damn liar -- but elliott's one of the few people i know personally who counts soundgarden among his favorite music, and is in fact the only person i know that claims them as his favorite band. one teensy testimony to elliott's awesomeness right there; soundgarden deserves more appreciation than "oh yeah, soundgarden. great band. that chris cornell rips."

anyways, i've added a link to elliott's blog on the left. i've also added a link to jamie, who has a fine blog as well. one of these days, i'm gonna browbeat him into either saying he likes the new sleater-kinney album or forming a band with me to go out and conquer boston one club at a time.
