for those about to rock

the tough thing about writing lyrics,

aside from word choice, rhythm and rhyme scheme, is establishing the same tone you feel reverberating through you in the music you're writing them to (even if sometimes that music is still a little hypothetical). for me, doing so has meant striving to hit the right notes between ham-fisted sincerity and shithead obscurantism, between naive optimism and boring, cancerous cynicism.

i'm finding that subtle middle ground elusive. i look at my words on the screen sometimes and see a lump of clay that's taken shape as a warped mess of flourish and function.
