food for thought
defying all my abysmal expectations, the sweet and sour chicken dish at the all-vegetarian happy buddha in chinatown is a convincing, albeit slightly gummy, facsimile of the real thing. when i tried it at lunch with friends earlier today, i was pleasantly surprised by how remarkably close the fried veggie vittles came to nailing the flavor of real chicken tenders.then again, when you consider what goes actually into mcdonald's chicken mcnuggets, maybe it's not such a brilliant culinary sleight-of-hand after all.
and with that, i pledge to never again make a chicken mcnugget crack on my blog.*
* "where's the beef?" jokes are still fair game
