wcw/nwo revenge...Amazing game...bested only by the WWF games that followed in that series with the create-a-wrestler and cage match. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED those wrestling games...nothing on PS2 has been nearly as good in my book.
without a doubt! forgot about wrestlemania 2000, which i didn't play nearly as much. come to think of it, i believe wcw vs. nwo: world tour was the one i logged the most time on.
i didn't even realize this game existed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWF_No_Mercy
sounds like it was amazing.
other series, like legends of wrestling and raw vs. smackdown, just have such clunky, ugly control schemes.

I'm a journalist trying to find Tiffany Sedaris. I sent her an email through her Web site, but it appears to have bounced. I'm wondering if you have contact info for her or any way to let her know I'd like to speak with her. Thanks for your help. I saw mention on your blog of you running into her, so I thought you'd know where she is.
If you have any questions about what I'm doing, just call or write. I can send you the full text of the email I sent her, so she'll know what this is about, but I'd rather not post that on the blog.
Hoping to interview her for an article I'm writing in the New Republic about David Sedaris and his family.

If you didn't spend enough time getting familiar with No Mercy, it's because by that time you had stopped hanging out with us!
But really, World Tour was the first THQ wrestling game and also the best (at least gameplay-wise). The graphics were crisp and clean, the colors bright and colorful, something that was really lost by the time they went to WCW/NWO Revenge, with its more "extreme" look and murkier graphics. Perhaps this was due to the first game being more of a direct port of the Japanese game? And who can forget such memorable characters as "Kim Chee" and "Dim Sum"? (Who I now found out were just the original Japanese wrestlers with made-up names).
If you were into the newer game modes, No Mercy was the best bet. The Ladder match was the best new feature, along with permanent weapons. Create-a-player was there too, but all my best creations were still in 2000, including the smirking Arnold Schwarzenegger and Conan n' Andy tag team.
N64 - still the best multiplayer system of all time. Why classic game engines like the THQ wrestling series and All-Star Baseball could never translate to other systems, I'll always wonder. Oh yeah, not to mention Mario Golf. Sigh...
But enough of the past - why don't you have a Wii yet???
a -- i wish i could help, but i'm not comfortable with the idea of approaching her, not when i've read that she's an essentially private person who i sense would prefer to be known in the public realm for who she is rather than who she's related to, and not when i wrote a blog entry about our encounter without her consent, even with that knowledge in mind.
that said, i do wish you the best of luck.
d -- my next priority is to buy a modest hdtv to take advantage of my 360's capabilities ... i recall gmailing you for advice and not getting a reply (!!!!) ... but the wii's the next big purchase after that. have you gotten one yet?
ditto on the n64 being the best (self-contained) multiplayer system ever.
i should've had mario golf on my original list.
i'd like to see a list of games compiled by you, too.
"N64 - still the best multiplayer system of all time. Why classic game engines like the THQ wrestling series and All-Star Baseball could never translate to other systems,"
I totally agree about the N64 engines...we used to play WCW/NWO World Tour with friends who had no interest in wrestling, including girls, and could play for hours and hours. There are some cool aspects of the Smackdown games, but they're not nearly easy enough to pick and play, nor as satisfying long term, which is a pretty wild combo.
I don't really agree on ASB -- I thought it was an awesome game, but I think that MVP Baseball has been even better all counts, particularly the pitching and throwing meters, though I only have the '04 edition.
BTW, are you the sushi-x who had the wrestling news site in the late '90s?
This isn't nearly as advanced as any of the games on your list, but if your looking for another brain numbing activity check out the new online game from WBCN:
